MCPE: $20 million! And more updates!

First off, Minecraft: Pocket Edition recently reached $20 million USD worth of sales, on Kindle, Android, and iOS combined. After doing some calculations, I figured that it is about 3 million sales. In honor, the three MCPE developers, Johan, Tommaso, and Jens, will be live-streaming from a live panel, answering your questions. Second of all, 1.7.8 was released and it supports future name changing abilities, a long wanted feature in Minecraft. According to Mojang, “Version 1.7.8 is now officially released. This version contains some bugfixes, a few updates to make Realms even better than it already is and prepares Minecraft for the renaming feature that will eventually allow you to rename your player. The renaming feature will not be available right now, but this is an important step towards it. We have also changed the internal handling of player skins to make use of our new, improved skin servers.” See the source link below for more info.

HeartBleed: The Bug of the Century

If you haven’t heard of it already, the heartbleed virus has infected nearly 70% of the internet. “The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.” -HeartBleed.com. This also allows hackers to easily steal your usernames and passwords for many of your online services. HeartBleed has affected Minecraft, as well as many other PC games. As a result of this, Mojang has shut down the legacy/old/classic launcher to secure its user’s account data. Mojang highly recommends all of its users to change their passwords, as well as the passwords to any other web service they use. Check the second link for help on choosing a strong password. Stay safe, don’t get hacked, and happy crafting!

A Minecraft Story: Chapter One

It was dark. A dungeon. A green face. That was all I remembered. I woke up from my eventful dreams and rubbed my eyes. Where was I? Underground, perhaps? Above me, I heard the clank of shoes on cobblestone roads, and horses trotting along. How did I know this? I don’t know. I just did. My throat was parched. How long had I been in here? The smell of this room was putrid, and I needed a breath of fresh air. But there seemed to be no way out. How could I escape? And that’s when I saw it. A ladder. It was rusted and old, as if it had been there forever, and the bottom half was ripped off, giving me a problem. I would have to make a jump for it. I leaped, and caught the bottom rung in mid-air. I climbed up and pushed through the grate on the top.

And I saw the most amazing things. The sun blinded my eyes, but I was still able to take in all the beauty around me. Buildings that seemed to touch the sky. Stalls of food vendors lined up on the streets, hoping to sell their goods to passing customers. A train station. And people. People everywhere. Something still tingled in the back of my mind, but I just couldn’t remember it.

“Craften, 4000 blocks”, a sign read. I had adapted to my surroundings by now, and I was ready to explore. I was able to locate food, water, and shelter for the night. After thanking my sponsors, I continued on my journey. Who was I? There was so much I needed to remember about myself.

Then the hiss came back to me. Hisss… It screeched like a thousand vipers in my mind. A creeper. It cornered me in that dungeon when I was exploring that eventful day. It threatened to blow up. The loot in the chest was so close, yet so far away. Then it came closer. My sword was with my companions. Under its green leathery skin, it produced something I had never seen before. A small studded pocket knife. I dropped my bag of tools in fear. It’s eyes seemed to paralyze me. I was frozen in my place. And then it stabbed me.
